Comment Follow-up

On Monday's post, one of my favorite commenters, left this message about a something she had just read in a book.  The lines in question were:

"“Now Delysia’s a little devil and there’s time I could flay her alive, and obviously she needs a little physical correction." Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day by Winifred Watson, 1938".

Susan thought I might be able to find a photo that would somewhat depict this.  So I tried, and wound up looking at illustrations that might fill the bill.  The results are the drawings below.

I'd be the first to say that none of them really "fill the bill"--in my opinion, anyway.  There are a few, I think, that maybe come close and a few that...well...don't.

So thanks for the challenge, Susan...and enjoy!

Great job Dr Ken. The book itself has wonderful black line drawings and number 6 is pretty close to the way the clothes are depicted. The young woman being chastised clearly needs something so very good choice. What is interesting is that you assumed the was speaker was a woman. Nay not so, twas a handsome young man! He was talking to a 40 year old woman who didn't disagree. The good old days.

Hi! Dr. Ken and Susan, when I read about this is on Monday I thought of a comic book character called I'ill Imp, a little red Devil, very cute. Bye for now,Aussie Jenny.

Susan -- Very true--without any other context to go on, I thought it might have been Miss Pettigrew who said it or at least thought it. I'm glad to hear that one of them came somewhat close.

It's actually a most enjoyable book if you're a reader give it a go.

Susan -- I'm an avid reader. I've been reading a lot of Stephen King lately, so Miss Pettigrew would be a welcome respite.

Stephen King to Winifred Watson... yup like going from a sauna into the snow.

Susan -- It will certainly seem like a shock to the system...
