"Discipline"

Janet Jackson--she of the Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction--is back with a new album. As you can tell by her gloves, the album's title is "Discipline"--not to be confused with the King Crimson album, "Discipline" or the group that is actually named Discipline.

One of Janet's previous albums was called "The Velvet Rope". Hmmm...rope....discipline....do you think she's trying to tell us something?

And before you dismiss the idea out of hand, keep in mind that the title track, "Discipline" contains the lines, "Daddy, I disobeyed you/Now I want you to come punish me/Don't hold back..."

There is no truth to the rumor that one of the songs left off the album was called, "Spank Me, Justin, My Boob Is Showing....."

Heat Wave

While other parts of the country are being hit hard by snow and ice and sleet, the weather here today was practically balmy. The sun was shining, the snow was melting, the temperature got above 32 degrees and is supposed to be about 35 tomorrow. Can Spring be far behind?

It's still cold at night, though, so what I saw yesterday about 11 p.m. has me shaking my head just a little.

I was driving home from work, sitting in my car at a stoplight on 3rd Avenue and heading for the ramp onto 694 when suddenly a gaggle of gals ran across the street in front of me wearing nothing but their Friday-night-going-out-clubbing clothes. Short sleeves, short skirts, cleavage down to wherever cleavage goes down to. No jackets, no gloves, no headgear, no parkas, no anoraks, no winter coats, or coats of any kind, for that matter!

The high temperature yesterday was 22. By 11 p.m., it had to be about 10 degrees above zero.

These girls were running and laughing and shrieking because they had to be freezing their collective buns off!

Now, on the one hand, I appreciated the sight. It made me long for warmer weather, when the ladies will be dressed like that all the time. And they were all young and attractive, and the clothes fit well in all the right places--especially the lady who trailed the pack, who was wearing a horizontally-striped dress in shades of tan with orange accents. The dress clung very nicely to her bottom, and it was pleasure to watch her moving away.

Still, as they dashed away to what I hope was a fairly nearby club, I couldn't help but feel that they were getting ahead of the seasons just a bit.

This post has nothing to do with spanking, other than for me to say that all those young ladies probably deserved to have their bottoms warmed, risking their health like that. Today they're probably all hung-over and will have pneumonia by Monday.

Seriously, girls, wherever you are--there has to an easier way to get your nipples looking perky...... :-)

A Moment Of Clarity

Just some things I want to address......

A word about writing:

I'm a spanker--as if you couldn't tell--who enjoys spanking females. Naturally, whenever I think of all things spanking, I tend to think in terms of M/F. I realize that's not the only configuration out there, but that's where all my experience lies, and my viewpoint usually reflects that.

A lot of times when writing things on this blog, I've been trying to keep the posts gender neutral. I refer to "the spanker and spankee", the "two people involved", the "spanking couple", and so on. Usually, it just winds up feeling awkward when writing it, and kind of clunky when reading it. In other words, it's a pain. I know I felt that way while writing the "Late For Brunch" post on Tuesday. I finally gave up and went the "let's assume the spankee is a woman" route. The writing was much easier after that.

So that's the way I'm going to write things from now on, in M/F perspective. It's easier and simpler for me. No offense to all the wonderful F/M, F/F, or M/M fans out there. I figure that spanking is spanking. I'll talk about it in the way that's most comfortable for me, and you can mentally arrange the Ms and the Fs in whatever order you like.

A word about pictures and illustrations:

From time to time I'll pick out a photo or a drawing to go along with what I've written. I've got a lot of stuff on my hard drive, and some of it will certainly make its way here--no original content, I'm afraid. Most of the material was taken off of the web and from newsgroups--alt.binaries.spanking was probably the source for the vast majority of the stuff. Very few of these pictures, however, are credited. There's nothing in the picture to identify the source, nothing in the name to indicate where it came from. The photo in "Late For Brunch" is a good example. I have no idea where that photo was originally used--possibly Janus, or Roue, or a publication like that, but I have no way of knowing for sure.

Whenever I can give some kind of credit to a photo or drawing, I will--the original source if I can, or at least the name of the blog where I found it. All others will go uncredited.

If you know the source--or if you are the source--of any uncredited photo or drawing that I use, please drop me a note and let me know, and I'll be sure to add the proper identification to the pic. Likewise, if you are the original source of a picture and don't want me to use it here, let me know and I'll see that it's removed ASAP.

A word about words:

I made a small change to the site and added a section called, More Blogs I Read. There are only two entries there so far--I imagine the list will grow fairly quickly, though. Check them all out and "Happy Reading".

Late For Brunch

On Monday, February 18, Bonnie had a post on her My Bottom Smarts blog called, "In with the New: Depths of Winter Edition". In it, she listed 8 fairly new blogs that she wished to introduce to her readership, and urged people to check them out. One of the blogs mentioned was Spanking Minnesota. So, "hi" to anyone who has found their way here thanks to that post, and I'm grateful to Bonnie for including me.

Consequently, the rest of this post will be devoted to the MSB Spanko Brunch question #109: "If we enjoy spankings, how can they be effective as a punishment?"




My answer is, "They can.....or maybe not."

There will be a brief pause for your applause to die down......

Anyone who knows me knows that there are two things I will continually harp on when it comes to spanking in any form: Communication, and mutual consent. When it comes to the idea of using spanking as punishment, the first thing the spanker and spankee need to do is sit down and talk it over. Cover all aspects--everything you can think of. Is it an idea that appeals to both parties? Do both want to try it? If not--if both people don't agree on it--then you can probably give up right there. For some people, spanking is more of a fun game than anything else, or foreplay, or both. It's never been about "real" discipline and that's the way they prefer it. Spanking as punishment? Forget it!

So, for those people--no. Discipline spankings aren't going to work. And it's like anything else--if the mind and the heart aren't in it, why bother?

Now, if all involved do agree that spanking for punishment is perhaps needed and something they want to try--well, they're practically half-way home. Because spanking can work as punishment if both partners want it to work. That may seem simplistic, but hey--I'm good at simplistic. :-)

It would work because a punishment spanking is different from the normal fun and games, and your mind can tell the difference, so it processes the experience in a different way. The sense of anticipation is different. The approach to it is different. The way you think about it is different. The feelings produced before, during and after are different. This lets you put the "spanking as fun" idea aside and lets you focus on the punishment aspect. If you have the proper mindset--then it will work. (That does sound a bit like, "If you build it, they will come", doesn't it? Still......)

There are things you can do to help that mindset along. Stay away from those things associated with the "fun" spankings. For purposes of illustration, let's assume the spankee is female. If she has a favorite position--OTK, for example--use a different position for a punishment spanking. Bent over a table, say, or kneeling on the sofa. Does she have a favorite implement? Don't use it. Go for the toys that she "hates", or at the very least, doesn't like very much. Scold or lecture more. A good lecture can really set the mood and put her in the proper frame of mind. Almost anything that emphasizes the punishment aspect of what you are doing and minimizes her comfort zone will work. You get the idea.

If you both approach it properly, then spanking for punishment can be effective. And the mindset is the key. Because you all know where a good spanking starts, don't you?

Most Recent Movie: Rented "Stardust" from Blockbuster. It had a sense of humor to it that I hadn't expected, so I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Currently Watching: The complete third season of "Veronica Mars" on DVD. Not much to watch on TV thanks to the Writers strike (glad it's over!) and what there has been, I've been taping to watch later. I'm probably a good month behind in my TV viewing.

Current Mood: Wistful. Wishing there was someone here to share the evening with. Wishing one lady in particular that I know wasn't so far away.

BTW, Pixie has added a link to Spanking Minnesota on her blog. Such a sweetheart! Now you know why I go there every day. Her blog is consistently funny, clever, and insightful, and well-worth reading.

I've also been informed that Bonnie's blog, My Bottom Smarts, has added a link for Spanking Minnesota, as well. MBS is one of the better blogs out there, and I consider it an honor to discover that she has linked me up.

Some future plans: I do plan to have a More Blogs I Like section included here, probably directly below the list of blogs I read daily, along with a section of pay websites that I enjoy. There is no timetable on this. I'm just doing these things slowly--one step at a time, as the wise person says.
