I Feel A Song Coming On

Well, it's Springtime in the mountains and I'm full of mountain dew

Can't even read my catalog like I used to do

I'm sitting in that little shed just right back of the house

Here comes Jake with all his hounds, he's gonna hear me shout

Oh, I won't go hunting with you, Jake, but I'll go chasing women

Go put them hounds back in their pen and quit that silly grinning

The moon is bright and I'm half-tight, my life is just beginning

I won't go hunting with you, Jake, but I'll go chasing women

I went down to the General Store and what do you think I seen

They make it in the city and it's called a magazine

I turned to page thirty-two and lookee what I found

Them gals wear clothes that we ain't seen beneath their gingham gowns

So I won't go hunting with you, Jake, but I'll go chasing women

Go put them hounds back in their pen and quit that silly grinning

The moon is bright and I'm half-tight, my life is just beginning

I won't go hunting with you, Jake, but I'll go chasing women

("I won't go hunting with you, Jake (but I'll go chasing women)" written by Stuart Hamblen--also attributed to "Stuart Hamblin" and to "Russ Hamblin". Recorded by Jimmy Dean and others. There are more verses to this song, but these are the two I remember. And, as promised, it does at least mention, "Springtime") :-)

Sarah--I'll take a look at it, thanks!

Radha--I originally was going to use nothing but pictures of ladies in cowboy hats, but the last two seemed to fit better. The girl on the hay worked better with the line about ladies wearing clothes "that we ain't seen", and the last lady walking or running into the sunset seemed like a natural for the finish.
More on all of this in my next post!

Spella--thanks! I'm not a big fan of Country-Western or cowboy songs, but for some reason this one stayed in my mind for many, many years...
